Do you LOVE trivia and an action packed beat the buzzer class/online activity?!? Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform that makes it easy to create, share and play learning games or trivia quizzes in minutes. Join Julie Kenny for a tutorial on the FREE version of Kahoot. (Check with your school district to see if they will offer the premium version). When using Kahoot with your class, students will need a device (chromebook, phone, laptop… to connect to Kahoot). Julie will have examples for both PE and Health. Kahoot can be used to check understanding of content in-person or online.

The Basics of Pear Deck
Presented by Mary Pat Martin 
This short session will introduce teachers to the basics of Pear Deck.  Teachers should be sure to have Chrome added to their extensions (will provide a tutorial during the session if needed).  The presenters will walk participants through a short sample lesson and allow for practice as well.

Preparing Health and Physical Education Teachers to Become Trauma Invested
Sue Sutherland, Kevin Lorson, Jennifer Walton-Fisette

In this session we will provide an overview of trauma, toxic stress, and adverse childhood experiences by engaging in trauma informed/invested practices. We will provide specific examples and pedagogies that can be applied in health and physical education programs and settings as well as make connections to self-care and the whole child.

  Sue Sutherland is a Professor and Associate Department Chair in the Department of Human Sciences as Ohio State University. She is an OAHPERD Past-President and current Governance and Nominations Chair. The focus of her scholarship is student-centered pedagogy, social justice, and trauma informed practice


 Kevin Lorson
 is a Professor and Co-Program Director for the Health & Physical Education Teacher Education Program at Wright State University. He  is an OAHPERD Past-President and current Advocacy Chair. He has worked on many Ohio health and education initiatives including health education  standards legislation, Ohio’s Whole Child Framework and the Ohio Physical Education Evaluation.

ennifer Walton-Fisette is a Professor of Physical Education Teacher Education and Director of Teacher Education at Kent State University. She has served in  numerous roles at the state and national levels, which currently include the OAHPERD social justice chair. Her scholarship and pedagogical practices are framed  within a social justice, equity, and trauma-informed perspective.


It is important to note that all 3 presenters are recent authors of the JOPERD Feature Series with the same title as this session. These articles were released in late December.

This session will focus on Mental and Emotional health centering around Goal Setting, Self-Management and Interpersonal Communication.  Help your students apply these life skills to their overall Mental and Emotional wellbeing.  

  Maria Schneider is a Health and Life Skills teacher at Brecksville-Broadview Hts. Middle School.  She is also the SHAPE Midwest Health Teacher of the Year for  2021 and OAHPERD Health Teacher of the Year in 2020.

Learn the basics of creating a presentation that puts yourself out there!  There are so many wonderful YouTube resources out there, but students want to see YOU!  Recognize the benefits of students watching your activities and exercises and let's master iMovie and Screencastify programs together.  We are here to help and learn together!  Come with questions and your laptop, iPad or smartphone ready!

How Can I Teach In 2020-2021: The What, The Why and The How

In this session we will discuss ideas, strategies and activities to use during remote and in-person instruction during these unprecedented times. We will discuss and share google slides, socially distanced activities, high-quality resources, hot to build relationships with students and remote distance lessons for you to use in your own classrooms. The mission is to help you become the best Physical Education Teacher you can be, even in difficult times. This session will provide you with engaging professional development opportunities you can use in your teaching.
Amy Belles is a Physical Education Teacher and Adapted Physical Education Teacher at Copley-Fairlawn City School.  Amy was also the OAHPERD Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the Year in 2019.

Google Virtual Learning Activity Boards
Presenters: Wendy Whaley and Stephanie Moisio

This year has been tough for those of us who have minimal technology skills and are teaching remotely or hybrid. This session will share ideas and teach the skills necessary for creating interactive virtual activity boards using Google slides. Join us to learn how to use these boards to present learning material and provide skill practice activities for your students as well as the OPE assessments. The boards we have created are for grades K-3 but all are welcome to join us for this session. Come ready to share what has been working in your virtual PE classroom! 
Wendy Whaley is in her 19th year teaching Physical Education; the last 17 years at Central Primary School in the Bedford City Schools. Wendy was the 2019 OAHPERD Teacher of the Year.
Stephanie Moisio is in her 21st year teaching PE and Health with the previous 18 years spent in the BCSD at Bedford High School. She is in her 1st year co-teaching Physical Education at Central Primary School.
